For more than 30 years, we have made it our mission to study and conserve the Magellanic penguins of Punta Tombo, Argentina. Long-term studies are critical to our understanding of the natural world and science informs conservation decisions. Only your support makes it possible to study penguins at the right scale and follow individuals over their entire lifetime. Most grants fund only 3 to 5 years, but some penguins at Punta Tombo we have followed for over 30 years. It is your support that makes our research possible. One opportunity for support is our Magellanic VIP program, which funds satellite tracking for individual birds. Satellite tracking is vital because it allows us to see individuals’ foraging patterns. These patterns can give us insight into prey availability, reproductive success, and overall population health.

With a donation of $5000, donors have an opportunity to name and follow a penguin at sea by supporting the research and a device to track the penguin. The penguin and donor both become VIPs – Very Important Penguins and People. Donors name the penguin, and we follow the penguin’s life and we provide them with a summary of their penguin’s travels and details of its life. Donations allow us to track the movement and reproductive success of your bird. At the end of each breeding season, we send you an update on your penguin and a map of its journey. We count on donations from people who love penguins and are passionate about science to learn about these ocean sentinels and ways we can help protect them in the wild.
